Emergency plumber in Totterdown
Burst pipe, water through the ceiling or a toilet that won’t stop overflowing? Ring any time, day or night.
What counts as a plumbing emergency
If water is going somewhere it shouldn’t and you can’t stop it, that’s an emergency. The most common calls we get are:
- Burst or split pipes, often after a cold snap or in a loft or under-floor void
- Water coming through a ceiling or light fitting from the floor above
- A toilet overflowing, or a cistern that won’t stop filling
- A blocked toilet when it’s the only one in the house
- A leak from a radiator, valve or heating pipe that won’t stop
- Waste water backing up into a sink, shower or bath
Some problems feel urgent but can usually wait a few hours: a dripping tap, a slow-draining sink, or a radiator that’s cold at the top. If you’re not sure, ring us and we’ll tell you honestly.
What to do while you wait
- Turn off the water at the internal stop tap. It’s usually under the kitchen sink, in the hall near the front door, or under the stairs.
- Keep away from wet electrics. If water is near sockets, lights or the consumer unit, switch off the electricity at the main switch if it’s safe to reach.
- Drain the system. Open the cold taps, and flush toilets once, to empty water left in the pipes.
- Catch what you can. Buckets and towels under the leak; if a ceiling is bulging, a small hole in the lowest point lets water out in a controlled way.
- Ring us on 0117 214 1238.
How emergency call-outs work
When you ring, we’ll ask what’s happening, where in the house it is and whether you’ve been able to stop the water. That tells us what to bring and how urgent it is. You’ll get a free quote over the phone before we set off, so you know what you’re agreeing to.
Once we arrive, the first job is to make it safe and stop the water. Sometimes that’s a full repair on the spot; sometimes it’s a temporary fix that holds until a proper repair can be booked, for example when a whole section of old pipe needs replacing. We’ll explain which it is and why.
Emergencies in Totterdown homes
Most homes in Totterdown are Victorian terraces. Pipework in older houses has often been extended and altered over the years, and older joints and fittings are where we see most failures. In a terrace, a leak can also reach next door quickly, so it’s worth letting your neighbours know if water is coming through a party wall.
The streets here are steep, and parking can be tight. If you can, tell us about anything that’ll help us get to you quickly: a side lane, a residents’ parking zone, or which end of the street is easier to reach.
