Totterdown

Totterdown is mainly Victorian terraced housing, built in the second half of the 1800s and rising steeply from the River Avon south-east of Temple Meads. Many houses are painted in bright colours, and Vale Street is said to be the steepest residential street in England. Older terraces here often have plumbing that has been altered many times, and shared drain runs along terraced rows. Bristol Water says homes built before the 1970s could have lead pipework, so it is worth checking your supply pipe.

Windmill Hill

Windmill Hill lies just west of Totterdown, south of the River Avon and between Bedminster and Knowle. Since 2016 it has given its name to the council ward that includes Totterdown, part of Bedminster and the Ravenhill Road area of Lower Knowle. Knowle
